Brett Luy Departs Rhode Island FC
Luy's departure comes 18 months after becoming RIFC's inaugural president.
Rhode Island FC saw a major leadership change on Thursday morning when it was revealed inaugural President Brett Luy was departing the club just 18 months into the job.
Since being named RIFC’s President on November 16th, 2022, Luy has worked hard to build Rhode Island FC on and off the pitch, which involved securing sponsorships, building a relationship with Bryant University, and helping lay the foundation for the club’s inaugural roster.
The Boston Globe’s Dan McGowan was first to break the news Thursday as he revealed the former President took a special advisor role with real estate firm Fortuitous Partners, which oversees the Tidewater stadium development project.
With Luy departing, a spokesperson from RIFC told McGowan that the club will name a new president “in the near future”.
Luy’s departure comes amidst Rhode Island FC’s inaugural USL Championship season, where the club finds itself in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with nine points on a 1-3-6 record. RIFC returns to action on Saturday, May 25th, as they host Louisville City SC and look to capture their first win at home.
