Boston Legacy’s summer of signings continues as the team announced another midfielder addition to its roster.
Aleigh Gambone, from Clifton, Va., signed a two-year contract but will be on loan to FC Nürnberg Frauen in Bundesliga through the end of the year, making Germany her latest stop in her European league escapades.
The 24-year-old started her professional career in 2022 after playing at the University of North Carolina for four years. She signed a short-term contract with Fortuna Hjørring in the Danish Women’s League and was there for a few months before heading to Scotland. In 2023, she joined Glasgow City FC in the Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL).
Her first season in Glasgow ended with six goals and three assists in 30 appearances, including three appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
She recorded six goals and seven assists in the 2024/2025 season and was named both the Coaches and the Players’ Player of the Year as part of Glasgow City’s annual awards.
Her value was also recognized by her SWPL peers, who voted her to the league’s Team of the Year. Though the club lost the Scottish Cup final this past season, its second place in the league gave GCFC a spot in the upcoming Champions League campaign.
"Aleigh joins the NWSL having gained valuable experience in Europe, both domestically and at the UEFA Women’s Champions League level. She has a solid foundation to build on having experienced four years at UNC,” general manager Domè Guasch said. “Aleigh is a hardworking and versatile midfielder that brings a strong physical presence and ability to cover ground effectively. Finishing the year in the Bundesliga will further prepare her for the 2026 NWSL season.”
While at UNC, she helped the team win the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament during her freshman year. In her senior year, Gambone scored her second goal of the season in the NCAA semifinal, which ultimately helped send her team to the final. The squad played in the NCAA final in both 2019 and 2022, but lost both games.
Gambone will be the second Tar Heel on the roster. She played with Emerson Elgin, who the Legacy signed in July, in 2021 and 2022.
The midfielder has also represented the United States on the U-18 and U-19 levels.
