Boston Legacy FC Sign Aïssata Traoré
The three-year contract will make her the first Malian to play in the National Women’s Soccer League.
Boston Legacy FC has signed forward Aïssata Traoré as the next player in its roster. The three-year contract will make her the first Malian to play in the National Women’s Soccer League.
The 27-year-old will be entering her second year with FC Fleury 91 in France’s first division as she remains on loan with the club until the incoming NWSL preseason. She scored nine goals and created four assists in her debut season with the club. France’s Première Ligue is set to begin its regular season in September.
“Aïssata is a versatile striker who can play multiple positions close to goal,” said general manager Domè Guasch. “She is comfortable on either foot, can score with her head, and is a goal threat from range as well as in the box. Most importantly, she is a team player that will help other players score goals as well.”
Traoré’s summer plans involve suiting up for Mali’s national team in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which won its first game against Tanzania on Monday. The Malian was first called up to the senior team in 2018 and has scored six goals in 14 appearances.
Traoré also played domestically for Super Lionnes d’Hamdallaye before heading to Istanbul’s Beşiktaş, where she won the Turkish First League championship in 2019. She then played five seasons with Guingamp in France before moving on to Fleury.
