Bobby Wood Dealing With Knee Soreness
Porter: "He probably is not going to be available for [Thursday’s] game but we’re hoping for Sunday that he will.”
New England Revolution striker Bobby Wood is dealing with some knee soreness.
“[Wood] has a little bit of a sore knee, that’s the best way to describe it,” head coach Caleb Porter explained. “Kind of a chronic thing, it’s nothing acute where he did anything, but he’s had a few knee surgeries over the years, and he has a sore knee based on the wear and tear of the preseason.”
Wood contributed 14 minutes off the bench against CA Independiente on Feb. 21. Three days later he was an unused substitute against D.C. United.
The Revs are hopeful that Wood—who had seven goals and four assists in 29 league appearances last year—will be available for Sunday’s clash with Toronto FC. The club will already be without Giacomo Vrioni for that game because he’s suspended for receiving a red card in the season opener.
“We gave [Wood] an injection of Synvisc, which is a natural substance that they utilize to inject into knees and usually we’ve seen great progress from guys in his situation after a couple of days,” Porter said. “So, he probably is not going to be available for [Thursday’s] game but we’re hoping for Sunday that he will.”
Bobby is getting up there in age and his body cann't take it. Time for Curt to start looking for another striker.
