Brendan Burke has his assignments for 2024.
The 2024 USL Championship schedule was released Thursday, featuring a 34-game regular season slate from March 9-Oct. 26, 2024. Hartford Athletic will kick off their 2024 campaign on the road in a meeting with El Paso Locomotive on March 9, before beginning their 17-match home slate two weeks later as they welcome Birmingham Legion on March 23.
The good news for Hartford fans — the violent, month-long road stretches of 2023 seem to be a thing of the past.
Hartford fans will have one summer matchup in particular highlighted on their calendars — a pair of meetings with newly-named USL Championship expansion side and regional rival Rhode Island FC. Former Hartford fan-favorites Prince Saydee and Connor McGlynn will make their return to Trinity Health Stadium on June 1 when the Ocean State side visits Hartford for the first meeting between the two clubs, with the reverse fixture in Smithfield set to take place on Aug. 10.
Burke, who was named Hartord Head Coach and General Manager on Dec. 12, will have a chance to face his former club when Hartford host Colorado Spring Switchbacks on May 11. The following summer months will see a challenging in-conference slate featuring a pair of matchups with Pittsburgh as well as games vs. Charleston and Tampa Bay — all Eastern Conference playoff teams in 2023.
The Green and Blue will welcome fans to their final home fixture on Oct. 12 when they play host to newly-promoted North Carolina FC, who spent the last three season in USL League One. They’ll round out 2024 with a pair of games on the road vs. Tulsa (10/19) and Orange County (10/26).
The USL Championship also announced several changes to conference alignment in 2024 — Former Houston Dynamo affiliate Rio Grande Valley FC Toros has ceased operations, while FC Tulsa and and Memphis 901 FC will move to the Western Conference in order to maintain a balanced conference alignment. North Carolina FC will move up from League One and play in the Eastern Conference, while Rhode Island FC will feature as the league’s newest expansion side.
