Vermont Green FC has a new USL W League coach and the women's club will be participating in the 2026 edition of The Maple Cup
Vermont has appointed Abby Carchio as head coach ahead of the club’s first competitive season. Carchio currently serves as an assistant coach at Northeastern University. She holds a UEFA B coaching license and is set to obtain her UEFA A license in 2026.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Abby to the club to lead us in our first W League season,” Vermont Green FC sporting director Adam Pfeifer said in a statement. “Abby comes to Vermont with a strong resume as a player and coach and we’re confident she’ill be a great fit in our organization. She is committed to the development of top quality pre-professional athletes and also to her own coaching aspirations and growth. Abby has shown she understands our club’s goals both on- and off-the-field. We’re so excited for her to get started.”
Prior to coaching, Carchio was a midfielder at Brown University, captaining the Bears to an Ivy League title in 2019 and earning First Team All-Ivy League honors in three consecutive seasons. After Brown, Carchio played professionally in France (AS Saint-Étienne), Denmark (Fortuna Hjørring), Iceland (Keflavík), Lithuania (Gintra Universitetas) and Ireland (Athlone Town).
“I am elated to be a part of Vermont Green FC for its inaugural USLW season," Carchio said in a statement. "The community and staff have already demonstrated a beautiful passion for the game, and I look forward to bringing that same love and dedication. For these players, I am determined to create a professional training environment rooted in competitiveness, detail, and self-expression. This club is undeniably pushing the needle forward for the women’s game- an ethos that I am honored to be involved with."
Outside of the USL W League, the women's side will play in The Maple Cup. The annual single-match cup contest that is hosted in Burlington is played between the Green and a opponent from Quebec. Vermont Green will host reigning Ligue2 Quebec Féminine Champions Lakeshore SC.
“We are excited to take part in the tradition that is the Maple Cup, not only because it continues our pursuit of elevating the women’s game internationally, but also because it is an energizing prospect to add a match of this caliber early on in our first season-long campaign,” Carchio said in a statement. “The W League season is compressed and will move quickly, the opportunity to put our players against quality international competition in the first few games of the season could make a big difference for us down the stretch. Lakeshore will be coming to win and those are the types of games we want to play in.”
Carchio and the Green will begin training for the 2026 season in Burlington in early May.
