Let’s get the bright spots out of the way. Peyton Miller had a pretty good game, and it was nice seeing him score a goal. Allan Oyirwoth made his Revolution debut, coming on as a sub in the second half. The Revs showed some fight in the last 10 minutes of the game and were able to score a couple of goals, one gifted to them by former Rev Omar González.
Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, let’s get into it.
That was embarrassing. Full stop.
That was an embarrassing performance against one of your biggest rivals. If there is one team I can’t stand to lose against, it is the Fire. After all the history and clashes in the playoffs over the years, I always circle these games on the calendar.
I don’t care what players were or were not missing for New England. The players should be up for this game. Instead, they sleepwalked through the first half. Chicago absolutely played them off the park.

How many times has Head Coach Caleb Porter or one of the players mentioned in an interview that every remaining game is a cup final? We have been hearing that for weeks now. It is the hallmark of a terrible team, which the Revs have been for 2 years.
How many times have you seen a team playing in a cup final give up a goal within the first two minutes of the game? Or two goals in the first ten minutes of the game?
The difference in class, in style, in flair, in common sense, was night and day. The team in red had it and the team in blue didn’t. Simple.
It was abysmal. Shocking. I was legitimately embarrassed watching my team play against a Fire side that is not that good.
Shouldn’t it be fun watching soccer? Has anyone had fun watching this team play over the last 2 years?
Take Carles Gil out of the picture. He has his moments. He is a special player, the best in team history. It will always be fun watching his individual performances.
Think about the team. When was the last time you had fun watching this team play?
I’ll wait. Having trouble remembering? Me too.
It has not been good enough. The writing has been on the wall for ages. It is getting repetitive, and I am tired of repeating myself.
The door is shut on the playoffs. The Revs could actually end up with the same amount of points that they had last season. Last year, they ended with 31 points. Right now, they are on 31 points with five games to go.
Three of those games are at home. Given their home form, I would be more surprised if they won a game than lost all three. Their away games are at Philly and Miami. You do the math.
The Revolution are at a crossroads as an organization. I love this team. I do not enjoy bashing the performances. I wish I could enjoy watching them play. I do not like teams that have a conveyor belt of coaches and constant change.
But this is not working. This is not building towards something positive. We are mired in mediocrity. There is nothing redeeming about this situation.
How can the players in that locker room not be feeling defeated? What must Carles Gil be thinking right now?
Something has to give. The fans will be there, through thick and thin. That is what we do.
