The New England Revolution are playing beautiful, inspired, free flowing fútbol. They play with joy, with flair, with character.
This past Saturday night against Atlanta United the Revs showed the best of what soccer has to offer. This season Marko Mitrović’s men are making fans new and old fall in love with the game.
Coming off the FIFA World Cup, the Revs are capitalizing on the moment. If they continue playing like they have of late, Gillette Stadium is going to be buzzing right into the playoffs. Fortress Foxboro is alive once more.
How did we get here? Mitrović is a big reason.
He is the spark plug that has energized and revitalized New England. Mitrović has brought a dynamic way of playing that gets the most out of his players. You can clearly see the results on the field, with the Revs thoroughly dominating Atlanta. This is a team that has gone toe to toe against Inter Miami, getting their first result against the Herons since Lionel Messi joined the league.
But is it just dynamism that Mitrović has injected into the team? I don’t think so.
There is an edge to the 2026 Revolution. They play with toughness. They play without fear.
They play to win.
They are on the front foot, dictating the game and asking the questions. They do not settle for 0-0 draws or hope to hang on to a 1-0 lead. They play the game the right way.
Curt Onalfo deserves his flowers, not just for hiring Mitrović as the coach of the Revolution, but also adding young players to the roster that fit what Mitrović wants to do. After so much criticism – much of it deserved during and after the Caleb Porter era – Onalfo has moved the Revs in the right direction. Now, with local legend Chris Tierney stepping into Onalfo’s shoes, the Revs have continued to add with their signing of DP winger Jack Harrison.
It has not just been signings that have made an impact. Our homegrown players are rising to the occasion, shining bright for all of MLS and European clubs to see.
Peyton Miller has been phenomenal this season. Absolutely spectacular. His first touch, his pace, his cannon of a shot, are a step above most players in MLS. I am enjoying watching him while I can, before he inevitably moves on to a larger club in one of the top leagues in the world.
Miller and the core of young players that make up the Revs’ roster are the perfect fit for Mitrović. They all seem to genuinely like and trust their coach, giving everything they have when they’re on the field. The mix of young talent with grizzled veterans has yielded the type of soccer and results that make fans believe anything is possible.
How far will this Revolution team be able to go? They will likely go as far as their captain will take them. Carles Gil, the magician, the maestro in midfield, is the engine that drives the Revs forward.
His brilliance, creativity, and lethal accuracy from outside the box leave fans in wonder. We are all lucky to be alive during Carles Gil’s reign in New England. We will tell stories of his dazzling dribbles, wicked cutbacks, and curling shots for decades to come. The former league MVP is still at the top of his game, motivated to bring MLS cup to the Foxboro Faithful.
There is still much of the season to go, and games are going to come thick and fast over the coming months. The Revs will need to stay healthy and hungry to continue near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
The bar for this team is not making the playoffs. The bar for this team is making some noise in the playoffs.
They will be a difficult matchup for any team come the chilly nights of October and November. It is not hard to imagine a roaring Gillette Stadium, rocking after Carles Gil scores a miraculous free kick, or Peyton Miller blazes down the wing, carving up defenders before blasting home a shot past a diving keeper, or our own keeper Matt Turner standing on his head to make a huge save and keep our playoff hopes alive.
We should expect nothing less from the Revolution. It is time we set our sights on the goal that has so long evaded our grasp.
It is time we dare to dream.
