New England Revolution II:

It’s been a rough stretch of play for New England as of late, as Revolution II enters Friday’s contest amidst a four-game losing streak that has seen the club be outscored 14-to-seven.

A big factor in New England’s recent slump has been the plethora of injuries to key players. On top of season-ending injuries to Carlos Zambrano and Joe Buck, names like Jared Smith, Jayden Da, and Chris Mbai-Assem have missed extended periods while recovering from their respective injuries. Fortunately, the trio has been seen in training lately and could be ready to return to the pitch as soon as Friday.

Friday gives Revolution II the chance to right the ship before the regular season ends. The club enters the match in seventh place with 42 points, an 11-8-6 record and three shootout victories.

While New England only trails second-placed Chattanooga by five points, eighth-place NYCFC II and ninth-placed Chicago Fire II sit three points behind. Revolution II needs to finish in the top seven to earn an automatic spot in the playoffs to avoid the play-in battle between the eighth and ninth seeds. A win against Carolina will go a long way in helping New England ahead of the playoffs.

Myles Morgan is on the cusp of making Revolution II history as his 13 goals tie Liam Butts for the most goals in a single season. Morgan has also been one of the more prolific scorers in MLS NEXT Pro this year, entering Friday’s contest tied for third in the Golden Boot race.

Carolina Core FC:

2026 has been a tough year for the independent side as the club finds itself eliminated from playoff contention, sitting in 14th place with a 5-12-8 record and three shootout victories. It’s worth noting that all five of Carolina Core’s wins in 2026 have come at Truist Point.

Like New England, Carolina comes into Friday’s contest looking to snap their skid, which includes back-to-back losses.

Looking at the stats, it's clear to see where things have gone wrong for the home side. Carolina ranks 24th in average possession (47.3%), 28th in accurate passes per match (289.7), and ties for 23rd in goals per match (1.4) and 22nd in shots on target per match (4.5).

Defense has not been much better, ranking seventh in most goals conceded per match (2.3) and tie for 13th in interceptions per match (9.3).

Despite the overall results, some individuals have had a good campaign in 2026. None more so than Arnaud Tattevin, who leads the club with 12 goals in 21 appearances.

Midfielder Thomas Raimbault has been a big producer for Carolina with four goals and five assists in 24 appearances.

While the record may be misleading, goalkeeper Nicholas Holiday has prevented the season from being a complete disaster, as his 78 saves is the third-most in MLS NEXT Pro.

Friday will mark the fourth all-time meeting between New England and Carolina. The independent side holds a slight advantage with a 2-1-0 record in the first three outings.

Their inaugural meeting came on March 31, 2024, when goals from Malcolm Fry and Jack Panayotou led Revolution II to a 2-1 win.

Despite Alex Monis finding the back of the net in the 16th minute, a brace from Facundo Canete in the final five minutes led to a 2-1 defeat for New England on August 24, 2024.

Their last meeting came on August 2, 2025, when a strike from Zion Scarlett in the 76th minute led Carolina to a 1-0 victory at home.
