The New England Revolution are now 2-10-1 after losing to New York City FC on Saturday night.

Here are three thoughts from the game.

  1. A Solid Night Undone By A Late Goal

After a shaky start to the match, the Revs settled in and offered a solid performance.

The most encouraging part of the game was that they created some dangerous chances through their passes. There were several times when the Revs played a line-splitting ball to a central player, who was then able to go forward.

That said, the Revs needed to do more in front of the net. The home side ended the night with 16 total shots (six on frame) and an xG of .78. Those stats were taken from FotMob.

The thin margin kept NYCFC in the game. Keaton Parks ultimately got the game winner in the 81st minute.

  1. Dylan Borrero Is A Difference-Maker

On Saturday, Dylan Borrero made his fifth appearance—and second straight start—since returning from an ACL injury suffered last year.

The Colombian looked good in his most recent outing, as he created several attacking moments during his 78-minute performance.

The speedy winger can obviously take people on in wide areas but there were several times when he created opportunities by coming inside.

  1. An Injury And A Suspension

The Revs have dealt with a lot this season, including injuries and illnesses. Unfortunately for them, this trend will continue, at least in the short term.

Tomas Chancalay exited Saturday’s game in the 10th minute with an injury while Henry Kessler will miss next Saturday’s game against Nashville SC due to yellow card accumulation.

Esmir Bajraktarevic entered for Chancalay and could continue to fulfill that role if the injury is serious.

The Revs have a few options to replace Kessler, including Dave Romney, Jonathan Mensah, and Andrew Farrell.
