A women's soccer superstar could be signing with Boston Legacy FC.
According to Diario Sport, Alexia Putellas is weighing her options after announcing her departure from FC Barcelona. Her choice is down to two teams: Boston Legacy FC and London City Lioness. Mundo Deportivo is also reporting that Gotham FC is interested in Putellas as well.
Putellas is a two-time Balon D'or winner. She leaves Barcelona with 508 appearances, the second-most all-time behind former left-back Melanie Serrano. She is also the top goalscorer for the women's side with 232 goals.
The Barcelona legend also made 147 appearances for the Spanish national team and scored 42 goals. She led the SeAcabó movement after Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales committed four separate acts of inappropriate behavior including touching players inappropriately as well as forcibly kissing Jenni Hermoso.
Putellas led a protest that saw Spain's top female players refused to play for the team in 2023 and 2024. Under legal threat if they did not attend, Putellas was part of a meeting that saw the federation agree to make significant structural changes promptly.
The addition of Putellas would be a gamechanger. Even at 32 years old, she scored 17 goals and 13 assists in 36 games played. For a side that is struggling its inaugural season, adding Putellas would be a much-needed injection of life.
