Yunus Musah Calls USMNT Teammate Christian Pulisic Best Attacker At AC Milan
"He's grown so much playing on the right wing, being so effective this season, scored so many goals and assists and he's been like, I think the best attacker in our team."
United States Men’s National Team teammates Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic are also teammates on the club level and Musah enjoyed the opportunity to learn a lot more about who Pulisic is as a player and a person at AC Milan.
The Italian club finished a distant second to rivals Inter Milan in Serie A this past season. Rossoneri also was knocked out in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Across all competitions, Musah and Pulisic played in 90 matches (Pulisic 50, Musah 40) scoring 15 goals (all from Pulisic) and 12 assists (Pulisic 10, Musah 2). Pulisic’s 15 goals in all competitions saw him tie Portuguese winger Rafael Leao for second on the team.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Musah discussed getting to spend more time with his USMNT teammate when answering a question from Paul Tenorio of The Athletic.
“I've gotten to connect with Christian a lot on a personal note,” Musah said. “Spend a lot of time with him in the season, on and off the field. It's been great being able to connect with Christian because I didn't get a chance as much to do that in camp so getting to do it in the whole year it was really nice. On the field as well. He’s grown so much playing on the right wing, being so effective this season, scored so many goals and assists and he’s been like, I think the best attacker in our team. The manager has given him confidence. He had faith in him and it was a mutual thing and the confidence that the manager gave him reflected on the field.”
While the stats seemingly back up Musah’s claim, it is still quite surprising to hear a USMNT player being described in such a high fashion at such a historic club. It is a testament to how far Pulisic has come as a player and how the United States has grown as a soccer nation.
But the club season is behind Musah and Pulisic. All focus will be on the nation’s match against Colombia on June 8. With the South American nation unbeaten in its last 20 matches, the U.S. will face a major test as they prepare for Copa America and the 2026 World Cup.
