Vermont Green FC to Face Lexington SC in First Round of U.S. Open Cup
According to available records, this will be the first U.S. Open Cup game ever hosted in Vermont.
While the New England Revolution will not be participating in the 2024 U.S. Open Cup, USL League Two side Vermont Green FC found out who the club will be facing in the first round of the tournament.
The Green will be going up against Lexington SC of USL League One. Former Revs II goalkeeper Nico Campuzano is now a member of Lexington and will get to return to New England, albeit a little bit more north than he is used to.
The match will take place on March 19 at 7 PM in what will be an exuberant crowd ready to cheer on The Green as they look for their first ever U.S. Open Cup victory.
“Our club has earned the right to play against this level of competition, and we’re looking forward to putting our players, who have pro aspirations themselves, against a professional team of this caliber.” said Vermont Green FC Sporting Director, Adam Pfiefer. “We’ll be playing against a professional team that has gone through preseason, so we’ll have to organize ourselves with that reality in mind. There’s no doubt we go into the Cup as underdogs, but we’re confident in the group we’re putting together. The boys will give everything they’ve got for the chance to advance in the tournament. These guys know how much this means to our fans and this community.”
According to available records, this will be the first U.S. Open Cup game ever hosted in Vermont, with the Green looking to secure the first win for a Vermont club in the tournament’s history. Lexington SC will also be the first professional soccer club to play a competitive game in the state.
