Vermont Green FC Can't Crack Seacoast United Code
The Green's playoff run came to an end
In their third matchup of the season against Seacoast United, Vermont Green FC fonce again suffered defeat and saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss
The starting XI featured no changes from the last match. Jaheim Wickham started in net while the back line featured Nick Lockermann, Moussa Ndiaye, Reid Fisher, and Nathan Simeon.
Daniel Pacella and Sam Layton served as defensive midfielders while Yaniv Bazini played behind striker Jacob Labovits as a second striker. Jackson Castro and Zachary Zengue were on the wings looking to create chances for Bazini and Labovits.
It didn’t take long for Wickham to get called into action. The goalkeeper made a diving save three minutes into the match.
The referee was quick to hand out yellow cards as three players (two from Vermont and one from Seacoast) received yellow cards before 10 minutes of the match were even played. Yaniv Bazini and Sam Layton were forced to play the majority of the match with a yellow card already on their rap sheet.
But after that, the match became a bit of a slog. Both sides traded possession without really testing either goalkeeper. Labovits and Bazini nearly connected in the 29th minute but Labovits’ cross sailed just past Bazini.
Both sides entered the locker room at half having failed to score a goal.
Disaster nearly struck Vermont at the beginning of the second half. Ndiaye and Wickham collided mid-air going for a ball and Seacoast had a chance to score on an open net but failed to convert.
Seacoast nearly found the opener in the 54th minute as a scramble in the box saw the Phantoms get on the ball but they failed to convert. After a Seacoast United player got in alone on goal in the 58th minute, Wickham made a sliding save.
As the second half progressed, Seacoast United seemed more confident on the ball. They put Vermont under pressure and tested the back line on numerous occasions.
The first change of the match came in the 63rd minute as Gabe Threadgold replaced Castro on the wing.
But the match changed its trajectory in the 68th minute as a penalty was awarded. Moussa Ndiaye made contact with a Seacoast United player at the top of the box and the referee issued a penalty kick that would soon after be converted. Vermont had 20 minutes to keep its season alive.
More changes came in the 73rd minute as Sjur Dreschler and Mohamed Ibrahim replaced Zengue and Simeon.
Seacoast managed to double its tally in the 77th minute as a defensive lapse saw Ibrahim Conde get played in all alone in front of goal. The Phantoms added another goal in stoppage time.
Vermont’s lack of finishing and chance creation was the club’s demise and saw The Green’s season come to an end. They still have some ways to go if they want to become the top team in the Northeast division.
