USWNT's Alex Morgan Finishes 2nd in The Best FIFA Women’s Player Voting
Morgan was also the only member of the USWNT named to the FIFA FIFPRO Women's World 11 after helping claim berths in the 2023 Women's World Cup and 2024 Olympics.
USWNT forward Alex Morgan finished second in voting for the FIFA Women’s Player of 2022 at the FIFA Best Awards in Paris, France, and was also the lone member of the U.S. squad on the Women’s World 11.
This was Morgan’s fifth time being named to the list (2022, 2021, 2019, 2017, and 2016).
Morgan — who played for NWSL expansion side San Diego Wave in 2022 — had one of the best seasons of her career. In 19 games played, she tallied 15 goals — including the lone goal in the club’s postseason loss to the eventual champion Portland Thorns — and claimed the NWSL Golden Boot.
After leading San Diego to a third-place finish in the club’s debut season, Morgan was named a finalist for NWSL MVP.
Morgan’s first action with the national team came in June during preparations for the Concacaf W Championship, a tournament in which she went on to play a key role for the U.S. to help qualify for the Women’s World Cup later this year, and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The striker scored two goals against Haiti to open the competition before scoring the game-winner for the USWNT in the championship match against Canada.
Morgan finished her 2022 USWNT campaign with four goals and one assist, earning her 200th cap with the national team in their final match of the year against Germany on November 13th. She became just the 13th player in U.S. history to achieve this milestone.
Spain and Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas won The Best FIFA Women’s Player for the second consecutive year, while English striker Beth Mead finished in third.
