Sergiño Dest Confirms ACL Injury, Out For Extended Time
Gregg Berhalter and crew will have to find another option at LB ahead of Copa America.
As an action-packed summer approaches for the United States Men’s National Team, head coach Gregg Berhalter will have a big decision to make at the left back position as Sergiño Dest confirmed on Instagram that he suffered a torn ACL and will have to undergo surgery that will keep him out for an extended period of time.
The 23-year-old wingback had a good season with Dutch side PSV before the injury, where he notched two goals and seven assists over 37 appearances across all competitions. Since debuting with the U.S. in September 2019, Dest has 32 caps with two goals and five assists to his name.
Dest’s injury will force Gregg Berhalter and crew to find a replacement for the upcoming Copa America competition and the Concacaf competitions taking place in late 2024.
Any chance DeJuan Jones could get a call up when he is healthy again?
