USMNT: Matt Turner Misses Out on November Roster
The Revolution goalkeeper's appears to be on the outside looking in of a starting spot for the USMNT
Mauricio Pochettino has selected 25 players to his United States Men’s National Team squad that will play two friendly’s in November. New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner failed to make the roster.
Pochettino clearly rates Matt Freese as the New York City FC goalkeeper earned another call-up and is likely to start both matches. Freese has made 11 appearances so far in 2025.
Roman Celentano, Jonathan Klinsmann, and Patrick Schulte are the three other goalkeepers on the roster.
Additionally, there are some massive returns for the USMNT. Gio Reyna, Joe Scally, and Ricardo Pepi made the squad. The striker hasn’t appeared for the USMNT since November of 2024 while Scally and Reyna have been absent since Concacaf Nations League play in March of 2025.
Ever since the 2022 World Cup controversy, Reyna has struggled to gain playing time when healthy and also dealt with injury issues.
“I think we already know she the potential of Gio and the talent,” Pochettino told reporters. “He has, enormous, enormous talent. It’s true that is not playing too much, but I think it’s a good opportunity in November, because until March we are not going to be together again and [there are] not too many possibilities to see him.”
“I think he’s a special player,” the head coach later added. “I know the situation last season that was difficult for him. He didn’t play too much, he was injured, and I think now he’s doing a great effort to change the environment, to change the club, and therefore to have the possibility to play in the national team.”
