Two Hartford Athletic Players Named to USL Championship Team of the Week
Walters and Asiedu earn league honors after their home opener victory over Birmingham Legion on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Paul Walters and Midfielder Anderson Asiedu were both named to the Team of the Week following Hartford Athletic’s 1-0 win over Birmingham Legion on Saturday. They are the second and third players to receive that honor this season, with Romario Williams also landing there following Hartford’s week one win over El Paso.
Walters made several key interventions down the stretch to preserve a clean sheet, including a save from Tyler Pasher following a breakaway that was nominated for Save of the Week, and a diving stop on a Diba Newegbo free kick in second-half stoppage time. Walters was credited with three saves in all, as he continues his impressive start to the season. Only Walters and Charleston Battery’s Adam Grinwis have kept more than one clean sheet so far this season, with both sitting on two through three game weeks. This is Walters’ first TOTW in his USL Championship career.
Playing against his former team, Asiedu was a dynamic presence in midfield, especially in Hartford’s dominant opening forty-five minutes, as he contributed to a suffocating press and added the assist for Michee Ngalina’s 23rd minute goal.
“I think Anderson Asiedu’s first half was just remarkable,” said manager Brendan Burke after the game, noting that the team gave him the man of the match award as well.
Asiedu was previously named to TOTW in Week 5 of the 2022 season - when he scored a last minute header to lift Birmingham to a 2-1 victory over Hartford.
Hartford returns to action this Friday, traveling to Cary, North Carolina to take on North Carolina FC.
