Tomas Chancalay Looking Good in 1st Training Session With New England Revolution
“He looks good. He looks skillful on the ball. We saw a lot of video of him before he came. He looks like a very skillful attacking player who can score goals, create goals."
As the New England Revolution deal with the loss of Brandon Bye, they will gain another player as Tomas Chancalay participated in training on Saturday.
The Argentine could be in line to make his debut for the club when New England faces Querétaro FC in the Leagues Cup Round of 16.
The winger joined the Revolution via Racing Club following a loan stint with UAE Pro League side Al-Wasl. Chancalay tallied eight goals and five assists over 19 appearances.
“He looks good. He looks skillful on the ball. We saw a lot of video of him before he came,” assistant coach Richie Williams said. “He looks like a very skillful attacking player who can score goals, create goals. So, I was impressed. It’s never easy, he’s coming to a whole new culture and still learning the language, so it’s not easy. But he seems like he has a good attitude. He looks like a good player and again, this is just in small areas today, so we’ll see a little bit more tomorrow from him and you know, see if he can contribute come Monday.”
Chancalay could provide the dynamic ability on the wing that New England has missed since Dylan Borrero went down with an injury that ended his season. The 24-year-old will attack his opponents with his skill while also possessing a powerful shot.
One of the players that Chancalay could connect with on the wing is outside back DeJuan Jones. Whether it be on the left or the right, these two players could use their pace to blow by opponents and combine for some amazing plays.
While not having the ability to get to know Chancalay as the winger just arrived, Jones is impressed with his new teammate.
“Yeah, haven't got to know him [Chancalay] too much, but he's got a really good first touch, he's a smart player, and he's got a really hard shot,” Jones said. “So, I think he'll add some great depth to our team and he'll be a player that can make an impact for us.”
With the addition of Chancalay, New England has strengthened their depth and overall talent. Through the first half of the season, the Revolution have shown that they are one of the best clubs in MLS.
Adding Chancalay to the roster ensures that they can make a run for an MLS Cup as well as potentially win some silverware in Leagues Cup. Hopefully, Revolution fans will finally get to see him in action on Monday.
