The Latest On The New England Revolution's Goalkeeper Situation
Caleb Porter: “We’re going to be adding a goalkeeper soon.”
The New England Revolution will soon add a new goalkeeper, according to head coach Caleb Porter.
While Porter didn’t name the incoming ‘keeper, The Blazing Musket reported on Dec. 28 that the Revs will sign 26-year-old Henrich Ravas from Widzew Łódź of the Polish first division.
The information was confirmed by journalist Szymon Jancyk, who added that the transfer fee is approximately $1.2 million, 15% of the Slovak's next transfer, and bonuses.
The Revolution ended the 2023 season by using both Earl Edwards Jr. and Jacob Jackson in net. Tomas Vaclik, who signed as a free agent on Aug. 26, 2023, didn’t make an appearance.
While Vaclik has a guaranteed year left on his contract, sources tell The Blazing Musket that the Revs will buy him out. Tommy Quinlan of WPRO previously reported that Vaclik wouldn’t return.
After Porter said that the Revs are “going to be adding a goalkeeper soon,” Sporting Director Curt Onalfo offered praise for Edwards Jr. and Jackson.
“We are very happy with Earl Edwards and Jacob Jackson because they're both two quality goalkeepers,” Onalfo said. “Earl played some great games last year and he's continually getting better. He's gained some enormous experience last year. And Jacob Jackson is a young goalkeeper and has a really bright future.”
Shoddy on the part of the Revs, where Vaclik is concerned--to say nothing of a huge waste of money.
And, as usual, they won't feel a responsibility to explain what happened.
