Soccer Stadium in Everett Hits Roadblock
The provision was left out of the $2.8 billion spending bill
It looks like the New England Revolution won’t be getting their own soccer-specific stadium anytime soon.
According to The Boston Globe, the agreement that was released on Thursday omitted language that could enable The Kraft Group to build a 25,000 seat stadium on the Mystic River in Everett on the site of a closed power plant.
The provision was approved in the Senate but failed to be approved in the house.
“We just couldn’t get to a ‘yes,’ and we didn’t want to allow that one issue to hold up the bill,” State Senator Michael Rodrigues said.
While the provision as unable to pass, the Senate still supports it according Rodrigues and the provision could emerge this session.
But for now, Revolution fans have been dealt another blow in their hopes of getting to see their favorite team play in a stadium of their own.
Maybe they should look else where, just saying.
