Rumor: Patrick Vieira "Under Consideration" For USMNT Job
Vieira becomes the third big name linked to the open USMNT coaching role.
Another day, another big name linked to the vacant United States Men’s National Team coaching position as Fabrizio Romano reported Patrick Vieira’s name is “under consideration”.
Thursday’s news came after Vieira’s time with French Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg Alsace came to a mutual end. Viera managed 38 games at the helm of Strasbourg, where he amassed a 13-9-16 record.
Following a playing career spanning France, England, and Italy, Vieira got his first coaching experience within the Manchester City system, where he served as an Academy manager before ascending to City’s youth squads.
Vieira stayed within the City Football Group system as he traveled across the Atlantic to become New York City FC’s manager on November 9th, 2015. Summer 2018 saw Vieira depart New York to accept a head coaching role with French side OGC Nice. The summer of 2021 saw Vieira move to Crystal Palace before eventually taking the Strasbourg role in July 2023.
Vieira is the third big name to be linked to the job since the United States Soccer Federation decided to part ways with Gregg Berhalter on July 10th. On top of Vieira, former Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp and former Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino were also in consideration.
Whether it’s Vieira or any other name, Fox Sports reported the USSF was looking to get the next USMNT coach in place by September.
