RIFC’s Amos Shapiro-Thompson Sidelined 3-4 Months
The 24 year old New England Revolution Academy product had yet to make his first appearance for his new club.
Coach Khano Smith stated after last Saturday’s match that Rhode Island FC midfielder Amos Shapiro-Thompson is expected to be out for “three or four months” with a “severe knee injury”. The 24-year-old New England Revolution Academy product had yet to make his first appearance for his new club.
Shapiro-Thompson had previously been a significant contributor to the New York Red Bulls II of MLS Next Pro and for Legia Warsawa II in Poland’s III Liga. The Massachusetts native was Rhode Island FC’s third professional signing. The club has not provided further specifics on the injury.
The Shapiro-Thompson-less Rhode Island FC play in their first-ever U.S. Open Cup action away against USL League One side Charlotte Independence on April 16th, at 7:00 pm. They’ll then fly to Las Vegas to take on the Las Vegas Lights in USL Championship action at 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 20th. Finally, fans can see Rhode Island FC back in action at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island, on Friday, April 26th at 7:30 pm as the club hosts the reigning USL Championship champions, Phoenix Rising, in the club’s first ever Friday night match.
