Rhode Island FC Adds Another Former Friar
And another former member of Vermont Green FC!
With the season opener days away, Rhode Island FC continued to add to their inaugural roster on Wednesday with the signing of defender Nathan Messer.
“We’re really excited to bring another former Providence College standout onto our roster,” said Rhode Island FC Head Coach Khano Smith. “Nathan has experience at the collegiate level and overseas. He’s a guy who likes to make plays and has the ability to attack up the field.”
Messer is the second player to have formerly played for Providence College, joining midfielder Kevin Vang. Messer played in 17 games and started in 14 games for the Providence College Friars in 2023. In his lone season with the Friars, he logged four goals and five assists.
Prior to PC, Messer played four years at William and Mary appearing in 58 matches. He scored eight goals and notched ten assists while splitting his time there as a midfielder and a defender.
Outside of his collegiate career, Messer has played with TVS Meerbusch (Germany), ND Primorje (Slovenia), Northern Virginia FC (USL League Two) and Vermont Green FC (USL League Two).
