Revs Notebook: The Latest On Bou, Blessing, and Vrioni
We get updates on Bou, Blessing, and Vrioni.
The New England Revolution battled FC Cincinnati to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Here are some tidbits from the game.
Gustavo Bou Returns
Saturday marked Bou’s first appearance since April 8 as the striker was dealing with a right leg injury. He had 15 touches and one on-target shot in 21 minutes.
In his post-game press conference, head coach Bruce Arena described the performance as “scrappy.”
“He’s out of sync,” Arena said. “He’s been out for a little bit. He’s going to need a little time to get back in form, but it was good for him at least, to get the 20-25 minutes, in today.”
Bobby Wood also played 21 minutes against Cincinnati as he returned from a heel injury.
The goal is that both players will be ready for more minutes when the Revs travel to Toronto FC next weekend.
“We have to get them through training this week and make sure there are no issues, and see what we do next week,” Arena said. “We have a week to get our team hopefully a little bit more healthy and ready to go in Toronto.”
Latif Blessing Brings His Family to New England
Blessing missed his second consecutive league game on Saturday as he was working to bring his family to the United States. The trip to Ghana was a success and everyone is happy to see the Blessing family together.
“It was great,” Arena said. “Latif got in, I think if I remember correctly, early today, and it was great to see his baby and his wife. He had a big smile on his face. I think we’ll get him back in training next week and he should be ready to go for us.”
With his family with him, Blessing is now fully focused on winning MLS Cup.
“I’m so happy right now,” Blessing told the Revs’ social media team. “I’m good to go. I’m ready for this. You know, I’m ready. It’s me and my family, so I’m ready to help this team win the MLS Cup.”
Giacomo Vrioni Misses Game Due to a Calf Injury
Vrioni missed Saturday’s game due to a calf injury, according to a source. The Designated Player was on a good run of form, having collected three goals in three games.
The source we spoke with isn’t expecting Vrioni to miss much time. Arena had the same sentiment after the game, simply saying, “Vrioni should be fine.”
