Revolution II traveled to Lower.com Field in Columbus to take on Columbus Crew II, looking to shake off their current slump.
Revs II made a total of four changes to Thursday night’s starting eleven, including the return of JD Gunn in goal. Despite missing a number of key players due to international duty and suspensions, Revs II looked to put on a strong performance, return to the win column, and turn their 2024 campaign around.
The first real chance of the game came in the 9th minute when Damario McIntosh played a dangerous ball into Columbus’s box, but the keeper was able to deflect the shot. In the 12th minute it looked as though the visitors would take the lead after the ball fell to an unmarked Patrick Leal, but his close range shot ended up going far right of the net.
In the 37th minute, Crew 2 were able to organize a dangerous counter, pressuring Revs II in their own box until the eventual shot would be deflected out for a corner. Columbus were able to take the lead in the 41st minute when Jayden Da headed home the cross off a corner kick.
It only took three minutes into the second half for the hosts to double their lead thanks to a defensive lapse from the Revs, Chase Adam the goal scorer this time. In the 65th minute Da tallied his second goal of the match, extending Columbus’s lead to three and seemingly putting the match away.
In the 81st minute, Leal was finally able to pull one back for the Revs; beating the keeper with an absolute screamer of a shot from outside the top of the box.
It was too little too late though as New England was unable to dig their way to a comeback, falling to Columbus Crew 2 as their streak of poor form continues.
Revs II will look to attempt to right the ship when they return to Gillette Stadium to host New York Red Bulls II on June 14th. Kick-off is set for 7:30 PM EST.
