Revs II 3, Inter Miami II 1: Three Thoughts
Revs II played their first game in NH, plus two more thoughts.
New England Revolution II earned their second win of the season when they defeated Inter Miami II 3-1 in Manchester, NH on Sunday. Here are three thoughts from the game.
Revs II Hold Onto A Lead
Revs II have been pretty good at scoring first this year, though they’ve often allowed their opponent back into the game.
Revs II struck first against Philadelphia Union II, Carolina Core, FC Cincinnati 2, New York City II, and Inter Miami II, yet they’re 2-3-1 on the season.
The home side left nothing to chance on Sunday, collecting three goals in the first 45 minutes. Patrick Leal opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed by Gevork Diarbian in the 30th and Jack Panayotou in the 44th.
A special shoutout goes to Marcos Dias, who collected two assists. His strong hold-up play was a factor in the game.
This is Panayotou’s Breakout Year
Revs II is an important bridge between the Academy and the first team.
Noel Buck had six goals and one assist during his 43 appearances with Revolution II while Esmir Bajraktarevic experienced a stellar 2023 by collecting six goals and two assists with the second team. Both players are now contributors to the first team.
Panayotou currently has three goals in four appearances for Revs II this year. His most recent strike was a thing of beauty as the midfielder made a great solo run before finding the back of the net.
Not every second-team player graduates to the first team, but Panayotou has great feet and field awareness. This year is his year to showcase his ability and leadership. He should be on the scoresheet regularly as he looks to boss the game.
Revs II Make New Hampshire Debut
Revs II played their first-ever game outside of Gillette Stadium on Sunday, hosting Miami II at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University.
I attended the event with my four-year-old son and some friends, who all enjoyed the experience. It was a modest crowd, so there’s certainly an opportunity for growth. One local I spoke to said she only recently learned about Revs II playing in the Granite State but now looks forward to attending more games.
There were a fair amount of Revs jerseys and scarves, along with some Messi gear. The fans were happy to cheer for goals and good play from Revs II.
A concession stand sold pretzels, popcorn, candy, soda, and more. The frequent trips to the stand for snacks were a highlight for my son. Many young attendees were able to interact with players after the game.
Revs II, who will play some of their home games at Gillette Stadium, will make seven more trips to New Hampshire this year. It’s a trial run that could lead to something more.
