Revolution Sign Tomáš Vaclík
The 34-year-old free agent joins New England following a stint with Huddersfield Town.
The Revolution wasted no time filling the void at goalkeeper as the club announced the signing of Czech Republic free agent Tomáš Vaclík.
Vaclík’s signing came an hour after the club announced Serbian international goalkeeper Djordje Petrović’s departure to English Premier League side Chelsea. A deal that reportedly netted New England almost $17.5 million.
Vaclík’s deal will see the 34-year-old keeper stay in New England through the 2024 Major League Soccer season with an additional club option for the 2025 season.
The Czech Republic goalkeeper has a tremendous amount of experience at high level play in Europe. During his time with Swiss side FC Basel and La Liga side Sevilla, Vaclík tallied 38 Europa League and 24 UCL appearances, where he notched a combined 24 clean sheets. He's also kept 166 clean sheets over his 501 career appearances.
Vaclík has also shined bright on the international stage. Through 54 caps with the Czech National Team, Vaclík has tallied 18 clean sheets.
The 34-year-old is no stranger to titles as well. During the 2013/14 season, Vaclík won the Czech Championship and the Czech Cup with AC Sparta Prague. Vaclík went on to win three straight Swiss championships with FC Basel and the Swiss Cup in 2016/17. He was also named Czech Republic’s Footballer of the Year in 2018. Most notably, Vaclík was a part of the 2019-20 Sevilla team that won the Europa League title. Vaclík’s most recent title came during his time with Greek side Olympiacos during their 2022 Greek Championship win. It seems wherever Vaclík goes, trophies follow. Let’s hope that continues in New England.
As Vaclík and the Revolution await the arrival of his P-1 visa, expect Earl Edwards Jr. in goal tonight against CF Montreal and for the foreseeable future.
