The New England Revolution are preparing for a tough battle as they host Los Angeles FC on Saturday night.
The Revs are coming off a 2-0 win over D.C. United, which snapped a nine-game unbeaten run.
Leo Campana struck first when he nodded in Carles Gil’s cross. Gil doubled the lead soon after by finding the right corner.
“Obviously for me it’s always important to score, to help the team to win, and I think Saturday’s [win over D.C. United] was important to take that boost of confidence for the next game,” Campana said.
Head coach Caleb Porter said that he saw the team’s confidence grow as time ticked on. In the end, he liked that they got two goals and a clean sheet.
“First half, to be expected, was a little bit nervy,” Porter said. “When you’re not getting results, that’s normal. I thought we grew into the game. We were excellent at 2-0, and we have to build on it from a confidence standpoint.
“We looked at the film today, there’s still a lot of little things we need to work on, and the next game is going to be a lot tougher. We need to play better in the next game to win.”
Of course, last weekend’s result came against a team at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. LAFC will present a different challenge, as they’re fifth in the Western Conference with a +11 goal differential.
The club just added Son Heung-Min, a global superstar who spent ten years at Tottenham and has over 130 appearances with the South Korea National Team.
He made his debut last Saturday when he came off the bench to draw a penalty at the Chicago Fire.
Son is just the latest big name to come to MLS.
“Everybody knows what kind of a player he is,” Campana said. “He’s a top player. I’ve followed him since I was really young in Tottenham.
“Coming into this league you have these chances to play with the best in the world, with these top players. So, I hope they keep coming [to MLS]. It’s going to be a tough game, but we’re going to give it all and we’re going to go for the three points.”
The Revs are taking it one game at a time as they look to make a late playoff push. Every game is an opportunity to get closer to the line.
“I think we’ll take it game by game,” Campana said. “Each game for us right now is a final. We have to play like we’re in the playoffs, we’re in the final for MLS. We’re going to give it our all. We’re going to give our 200 percent each game. I’m really confident that we can get into the playoffs.”
