New England Revolution Preparing For Difficult Matchup Against CF Montreal
So, we're ready for a difficult game on Saturday.”
While CF Montreal is last in the Eastern Conference and boasting a -9 goal differential, Bruce Arena and the New England Revolution aren’t taking the Canadian club lightly.
“They [CF Montreal] haven't started the season the way they'd like to, but every game in this league is tough and from what I know of this team in the past, they've got some very good players,” Arena said. “[Romell] Quioto, [Victor] Wanyama, [Mason] Toye, their center backs are very good – just good, solid players in the league. And when you have three or four players of their quality, they're going to have a good team. So, we're ready for a difficult game on Saturday.”
Quioto will be a handful for Revolution defenders. The striker is coming off a 15-goal campaign in 2022 and so far in 2023 has two goals for CF Montreal.
The Honduran striker has performed particularly well against New England as he has scored four goals against the Revolution. Taty Castellanos is the only other player to have scored more goals against New England (5) since Quioto joined MLS in 2020.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure they still play with wingbacks and like you said, [Romell] Quioto’s been a problem for us in the past, so we’re definitely going to scout him and make sure we’re ready for all they have, but we’re really focused on us, making sure we have the right shape and have the right mentality for 90 minutes,” DeJuan Jones said after training on Tuesday.
As of late, Montreal has been able to best New England. Last season, the Canadian club defeated the Revs twice after previously losing six straight games.
Similar to Arena, captain Carles Gil is expecting a tough match against CF Montreal.
“In this league, you never know,” the midfielder said. “Every game is difficult, is different. They’ve had a difficult start to the season but they’re a good team. They’ll be difficult for sure.”
So while this might seem like an easy three points, New England will need to earn the win at home. They will need to be strong defensively and play a complete 90 minutes if they want the win.
