Revolution Notebook: Dylan Borrero Looks At Home In Florida
Borrero scored in a preseason friendly on Friday
While the New England Revolution train in Florida one of their Designated Players remained out of the country. Gustavo Bou still hasn’t joined the club for preseason as he awaits his Green Card. The 32-year-old forward has been active on social media posting training pictures but his absence certainly has made thinking about the 2023 season more difficult.
Bou has scored 37 goals in 81 matches for New England since joining the club in 2019 but his place on the roster has become a question mark. Where does he fit with Giacomo Vrioni? Is it playing two up top or do you put Bou out wide? His fit has been a question for a while now. Missing this much time in the preseason likely means he won’t be fully fit for the MLS opener on February 25th.
While Bou remains out of the picture the rest of the team played in their third preseason match on Friday. New England defeated Nashville SC 1-0. The lone goal came off the foot of Dylan Borrero who looked right at home in Florida.
Other Preseason Notes:
It is interesting to see that Jack Panayotou has started two of three preseason matches including both of the last two matches.
One of the notes heading into preseason was the lack of depth at outside back. On Friday the Revs had Christian Makoun at outside back opposite Brandon Bye and centered by Dave Romney and Henry Kessler.
Ema Boateng remains a trialist with the club. He came into the match in the 68th minute against Nashville. Feels like his re-signing as a full-time player is inevitable.
Revolution II Also In Florida
The mini Revs began a ten-day preseason trip in Florida on Friday where they will play three closed-door friendlies. Revs II will play two MLS NEXT Pro teams (Colorado & Orlando) and the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the USL Championship.
Things I Liked In The Media
The first preseason match against Inter Miami CF had no updates associated with it with both clubs agreeing to not share details. Andy From Revs Nation decided to take matters into his own hands.
For those wondering why there haven’t been any streams of preseason matches this is a league-wide issue. The lack of preseason streams is due to the league’s new Apple TV deal per a Tweet from the Chicago Fire. It does feel like a massive miss not only to potentially test out the new Apple TV product but also for fan engagement. Seems like a big miss on behalf of the league, hopefully, it doesn’t mean a decade of no preseason streams.
I was confused by the title and thought you meant Dylan was looking to purchase a home in Florida
Considering how much time he spent “recovering” in Florida last year it’s no wonder he looks comfortable down there!
