Revolution Looking to Unlock Luca Langoni
Porter: “I feel good about him in this game based on what I’ve seen the last two weeks in training."
New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter believes that unlocking Luca Langoni is simple.
“I think the key is Langoni being Luca Langoni,” Caleb Porter said. “He needs to be himself. He needs to do what he does best. Those are the things we’ve talked to him about.”
Langoni joined the Revolution as a U22 Initiative Player in August 2024. The speedy Argentine finished the year with three goals and two assists in 11 games (eight starts).
Langoni has yet to make his way onto the scoresheet in 2025 and has only recorded two shots this year, neither were on target.
After starting the first three games of the season, Langoni came on as a sub against New York City FC. Porter said this move was made due to the tight confines of Yankee Stadium.
On Thursday, Porter expressed confidence that Langoni will be ready for this weekend’s home game against the New York Red Bulls.
“I feel good about him in this game based on what I’ve seen the last two weeks in training,” Porter said.
Langoni, who just turned 23, is adjusting to a new team and country. Porter noted that even something like playing in colder conditions can affect a player.
While adjusting is undoubtedly part of the puzzle, Aljaz Ivacic also noted that the team needs to look to find Langoni in the right spots.
“[He’s] a quality guy,” Ivacic said. “He brings pace, for sure. I think we maybe haven’t used him in the way we maybe should. He has to maybe attack in front of the line more, and we have to play in the space, not in his feet.”
