Weather: After severe temps ravaged the Northeast in recent days, Thursday evening looks to be an ideal night. Kickoff will see the temp sit at 78° while dropping to the mid-70s throughout the match. Thunder could be an issue as storms are expected to begin at 9 PM. The chance of rain will hover around 50% throughout the evening.
New England Revolution II:
Revolution II returns to action after getting the weekend off. The extended break has given Richie Williams and the team more time to prepare as they look to shake off their 1-0 loss at home to FC Cincinnati 2.
JD Gunn will miss another game as his international duty with Panama continues. Gunn did not see the field during the Group Stage as Panama went on to win out the group and secure the top spot in Group C. Panama will begin the knockout stage on June 28 when they face Honduras. Depending on how far Panama advances, Gunn may be out for a little bit longer.
With Gunn out, expect Max Weinstein to get another look in goal. The 21-year-old has started the last three matches for the club. His 2025 debut saw him make four saves en route to Revolution II’s 1-0 win over NYCFC II. June 9 saw Weinstein make three saves in the 2-2 draw against Fire II. His most recent outing saw him make no saves as FC Cincinnati 2’s lone shot on target was their 40th-minute strike to seal a 1-0 victory.
The status of Damorney Hutchinson and Alex Monis is unknown. Monis has missed the last two matches, while Hutchinson has missed five.
Thursday should be another historical day for Marcos Dias. The forward enters Thursday with 6.214 minutes clocked for the club. Playing eight minutes against Philadelphia would see him surpass Pierre Cayet’s all-time leading tally of 6,221 minutes.
It would be the third record Marcos Dias has set in recent history. May 4, 2024, saw Dias break the all-time scoring record when he tallied his historic 18th goal! He’s since increased his all-time tally to 27. June 15 saw Dias surpass Cayet when he made his 70th appearance for the club.
Philadelphia Union II
Ryan Richter’s first season at the helm of Union II has gotten off to a tremendous start as Philadelphia enters Thursday’s match in third place in the Eastern Conference with 24 points on a 6-1-4 record with two shootout victories.
Union II comes into Thursday’s match amidst a three-game winning streak that’s seen them secure a 4-1 win over FC Cincinnati 2, a 3-0 shutout victory over Crown Legacy FC, and a 3-1 win over Columbus Crew 2.
Philly’s work on both sides of the ball has led to success this season. Union II comes into Thursday’s match with 25 goals on the year, which ties for the eighth-most. Their 2.3 goals per match ties for the second-most in MLS NEXT Pro.
On top of a potent offense, their defense has been just as impactful. Through 11 matches, Union II has only conceded eight goals. Their 0.7 goals conceded per match is the lowest across MLS NEXT Pro
Revs II will have to keep an eye on Sal Olivas, Edward Davis, Giovanny Sequera, and Stas Korzeniowski, as the quartet leads Union II with three goals each. On top of his three goals, Ed Davis also leads Union II in assists with four.
Previous Meetings:
Thursday will mark the 12th all-time meeting between New England and Philadelphia. It’s been a dead-even series thus far as both sides hold a 5-5-1 record against the other.
Meny Silva’s 34th-minute strike was the deciding factor in the inaugural meeting on May 27, 2022, as Revs II secured the 1-0 shutout victory. Philadelphia took home large victories in the following two meetings. August 21, 2022, saw Philly secure a 5-1 victory, followed by a 3-1 victory on September 18, 2022.
2023 saw Revs II complete the sweep against Union II. April 10 saw the Revs II offense roll to a 5-1 win inside Gillette. Esmir Bajraktarević’s stoppage-time strike secured a 4-3 victory for New England on May 21. August 27 saw them secure the shutout following a 3-0 victory.
October 1, 2023’s meeting was historic for Revolution II as it marked the first playoff game in club history. Despite some late pushback from Philadelphia, earlier goals from Dias and Bajraktarević led to Revs II securing Revolution II’s first-ever playoff victory, thanks to the 3-2 win.
Since then, Philadelphia has regained the edge in the series, going undefeated in the last four meetings. March 24, 2024, saw a late goal from Sal Olivas propel Philly to a 2-1 win. May 19, 2024, saw Philly glide to a comfortable 3-1 victory. Union II secured another 2-1 win on July 6, 2024.
Their most recent meeting came earlier this season when both sides played to a scoreless draw on March 9. New England walked away with the extra point following a 4-3 shootout victory.
