Revolution 1, Cincinnati 1: Three Thoughts
We wish Dylan Borrero a speedy recovery, plus two more thoughts.
The New England Revolution tied Cincinnati FC 1-1 on Saturday night. Here are three thoughts from the game.
Our Thoughts Are With Dylan Borrero
Borrero exited the game in the 22nd minute after landing awkwardly while trying to avoid a tackle from Yerson Mosquera. Esmir Bajraktarevic replaced Borrero, who left on a stretcher.
This could greatly impact the Revs’ season. Borrero has been quite good this year as he’s collected two goals and one assist in eight appearances.
Set Piece Woes
Djordje Petrovic saved a penalty after Justin Rennicks was deemed to have handled the ball in the box. The Rennicks call was suspect, but the save was sublime. Petrovic has saved 5 of the 14 penalties he’s faced in MLS.
Moments later, Cincinnati scored when Mosquera nodded home a corner kick in the 31st minute. Set pieces have caused the Revs some trouble this year, as they notably conceded on a corner kick against New York City FC and on a set piece versus Sporting KC.
The Revs Didn’t Give Up
The Revs could’ve put their head down after losing Borrero and allowing a goal, but that didn’t happen. They ultimately found a first half equalizer when Ema Boateng guided in Brandon Bye’s cross.
Both teams had chances, including penalty shouts, but the game ended 1-1.
