Report: Revolution Trade DeJuan Jones to Columbus

Left-Back Will Sands is reportedly coming to the Revolution as part of the trade.

The New England Revolution have reportedly made their first trade of the summer window. According to Caleb Pongratz of Prost Soccer, DeJuan Jones has been traded to Columbus for third-year left back Will Sands. The Blazing Musket can confirm the exchange.

Columbus-based reported Patrick Murphy added that the Revolution will be receiving General Allocation Money (GAM) in the deal as well.

The move causes a shake-up to the Revolution's roster as the sixth-year outside back was the third-longest tenured Revolution player with only Brandon Bye and Andrew Farrell as the only active players that have been with the organization longer. Drafted with the 11th overall pick in the SuperDraft, Jones has played 142 MLS games (127 starts) with the Revs, scoring six goals and notching 22 assists.

The trade is also a reverse in direction for New England, which extended DeJuan Jones through the 2027 season back in January. At the time, Head Coach Caleb Porter stated, "DeJuan is the ideal profile in our game model and I’m very pleased he will remain a key part of our team for the foreseeable future."

However, with that extension came a hefty raise and Jones' compensation increased from $395,000 to $793,246, according to MLSPA salary data. With the emergence of homegrown Peyton Miller, the team is unloading a long-term contract.

The Revolution will receive left-back Will Sands from the Columbus Crew. Signed as a homegrown by now-Revolution Head Coach Caleb Porter in 2022, Sands occupies a supplemental roster spot and has a team option for the 2025 season. Sands has played 25 MLS games (16 starts) over three seasons with three assists for the Crew.

The Revs will also receive GAM as part of the deal.
