Report: Djorde Petrovic Sold to Chelsea
The Petrovoz has reached the station
After initial reports of a move to Chelsea, Djorde Petrovic will be headed to England to play for The Blue’s. Fabrizio Romano first reported that Petrovic would be headed to the English Premier League for over $17 million, a record transfer fee for an MLS goalkeeper.
According to Romano, both sides reached a deal worth €16 million (roughly $17,428,800). Romano also confirms that medical tests for Petrovic will happen on Wednesday.
Petrovic finished his Revolution career with 43 MLS starts and a 17-11-15 record. In 3,870 minutes, the Serbian shot-stopper racked up 184 saves and 14 clean sheets.
While American free-agent Josh Cohen appeared to be Djordje Petrovic's replacement in the lead up to the deal, new insight from The Athletic's Tom Bogert indicates that may no longer be the plan.
According to Bogert, the Revolution are lining up a move to fill the void in net, but it's not the former Maccabi Haifa keeper. The identity of the new addition remains a mystery, but Bogert adds the deal is "close".
The defense needs to be more on their toes without Petrovic to bail them out.
Would have been great to keep him for the rest of the season, but you can't turn down that much money, only to have an unhappy player on your hands.
OTOH, Petro didn't get a destination where he'd be the #1, but I'm guessing he's okay with that.
Great for both sides. Hope Earl and Jacob carry us the rest of the season or they get free agent Josh Cohen.
