Report: Bordeaux Turn Down Revolution's Offer For Alberth Elis
The Revolution's quest for depth at winger has hit a roadblock.
Just days after French outlet L’equipe reported the New England Revolution and both LA-based MLS teams were interested in Bordeaux winger Alberth Elis, it appears the Revs have turned their interest to action.
According to L’equipe’s Emery Taisne, the Revolution submitted a bid of $1.6 million for Elis. Bordeaux reportedly turned down the offer as it was viewed “below Bordeaux’s expectations”.
Taisne adds Bordeaux has a €3.5 million (~$3,813,950) price tag on Elis, yet a desperate need for cash could lead to Bordeaux taking a lower fee. Considering all three Designated Player slots and Bordeaux’s high valuation, completing a deal for Elis seems highly unlikely unless Bordeaux is willing to let him go for less than they expected.
Despite Elis likely being out of the picture, it's interesting to see the Revs try and acquire a winger before their 2024 campaign begins. With the Revolution traveling to Florida for a multi-week training camp, expect to see them look at another winger soon if Caleb Porter intends to add depth at the position.
