Revolution II headed up north on Friday night to face off against Toronto FC II at York Lions Stadium. Looking to bounce back from their loss to NYCFC II, the Revs made seven changes to their line-up, which included the first start for goalkeeper JD Gunn while Alex Monis, Hesron Barry, Maciel, and Patrick Leal all returned to the starting XI.
In the 6th minute it was Toronto who struck first after a moment of chaos in New England’s box saw the ball fall to Julian Altobelli, who was able to slot his first-time strike into the far bottom corner of the net. In the dying moments of the first half Marcos Dias was able to bring things level for the Revolution, finding the back of the empty net as Toronto’s keeper found himself way out of position following a poor challenge for the ball.
In the 66th minute Revs II made their first substitution of the game, with Joshua Bolma replacing Gevork Diarbian. New England made a pair of substitutions in 73rd minute, swapping Olger Escobar and Luka Borovic in for Monis and Leal. Revs II made their final change of the match in the 81st minute as Alex Parvu, making his professional debut, checked into the game for Eric Klein.
With neither team able to find the game winner in regulation, Revs II prepared for their first shoot-out of 2024. After seven rounds of penalties, thanks to two misses and a save from Gunn, New England were able to defeat Toronto 5-4.
Revs II will head to Hooksett, New Hampshire for their first match at Ouellette Stadium for a conference match-up against Inter Miami II on Sunday, April 28th. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM EST.
