Nick Lima Introduced to "The Revolution Way"
“I think defensively, there’s an identity. He says, ‘the Revolution way’, and I think we’re buying into it and it’s going to be hard to break us down."
After joining the New England Revolution in the offseason, Nick Lima is getting introduced to “the Revolution way”.
So far in two preseason matches, the Revolution have given up five goals (scored none) but under Caleb Porter New England has a clear identity and that identity has a name.
“I think defensively, there’s an identity,” Lima said of Porter’s system. “He says, ‘the Revolution way’, and I think we’re buying into it and it’s going to be hard to break us down. You saw that today. I think there were a couple goals we gave up in the first group that we aren’t going to give up again, those kinds of goals, but they weren’t breaking us down. I thought that was good, and I thought there were positives within that game that we’ll definitely take away and that we felt, too, and that Caleb saw as well, that he expressed to us after the game. So, it was a step forward today, for sure.”
Lima has played seven seasons, tallying eight goals and 20 assists in 195 matches. Now in New England, he will look to make an impact, especially as Brandon Bye continues to rehab.
Getting a new head coach can already be difficult but the learning curve only increases when you have joined a new team and have new teammates to adjust to as well.
Lima discussed how he and the group as a whole have built chemistry during the preseason.
“I think personally, individually, and as a group we’ve learned a few things and continued to grow in the right direction,” Lima said after the 2-0 loss on Thursday. “From last week, the intrasquad, and then to today, just a couple days later, and it’s been good. Guys are getting more confident and results are going to follow that, so I like it so far.”
Now the Revolution will take a brief break as they step away for four days. It will be a time to recharge ahead of a long season.
New England’s next preseason match is on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Orlando City SC.
