Report: New England Revolution to Exercise Buyout On Jozy Altidore
Greek sides AEK Athens and PAOK are reportedly interested in signing Altidore.
According to Tom Bogert and Paul Tenorio of The Athletic the New England Revolution are exercising their one-time buyout on veteran striker Jozy Altidore.
Altidore joined the Revs last winter after being bought out by Toronto FC, but scored two goals in 30 appearances that included just six starts. He went out on loan with Liga MX side Puebla before returning to New England ahead of the 2023 season.
Once again the 33-year-old was unable to make an impact. In 10 matches played this season (one start), Altidore has only recorded a goal in 195 minutes played.
With Altidore reportedly on a max-TAM deal with New England, the Revs will open up over $1.5 million in cap space. According to the duo’s sources, Greek sides AEK Athens and PAOK are interested in signing the striker.
Tenorio and Bogert were also able to offer some insight into New England’s plans in the summer transfer window. According to the expert’s sources, the Revolution plan to bring in at least one new summer signing.
With Altidore’s struggles, fans will likely be happy to move on from the veteran, especially if it means that the Revs can make a splash in the summer transfer window. Whether it be replacing the loss of Dylan Borrero or increasing overall depth, New England now has some more money to play with.
It didn't work out with the Revs but I still wish him the best of luck where ever he lands.
I'm glad the end of his time with the Revs was marginally better than the start. Hopefully he's parting on good terms with the club.
