New England Revolution Add Tanner Beason and Alex Bono, Trade Earl Edwards Jr.
The moves continue to come for New England
On Friday the New England Revolution made some moves ahead of the 2025 campaign.
The Revolution acquired Alex Bono and Tanner Beason while trading Earl Edwards Jr. to the San Jose Earthquakes.
Bono will be New England’s backup goalkeeper and compete with Aljaz Ivacic in training. The MLS veteran spent last season with D.C. United where he appeared in 29 matches (a career-high), allowing 55 goals and saving 59.9 percent of the shots he faced. In his career, Bono has 165 starts and has recorded 33 clean sheets.
Beason has spent some time in MLS but is only 27 years old. The center back has amassed 88 starts (17 in 2024) along with 301 clearances and 115 interceptions. He is also known for finding any way to block a shot.
With the Revolution lacking in depth at center back, it's likely that Beason is a spot starter while Brayan Ceballos and Mamadou Fofana receive the bulk of minutes in 2025. Nevertheless, this is a solid depth acquisition that was much needed.
Heading out is veteran goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. Our own Seth Macomber is reporting that the goalkeeper has been sent to the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for $150K in General Allocation Money.
With Bono on the roster, it didn’t make sense to keep Edwards Jr. on the roster. It is quality business from Curt Onalfo and the front office to receive some GAM.
The flurry of moves will continue as Caleb Porter and Onalfo rebuild the Revolution roster ahead of the 2025 season but New England has added some depth with the moves they made on Friday.
Again, unless the COACH develops some new skills, I don't see how NEW players will make a lick of difference. I hope I am wrong, but .....
