Kyle Edwards Returns to Hartford Athletic for 2025 Season
The Vincentian forward is back for his third season in green and blue
Hartford Athletic announced that they had re-signed forward Kyle Edwards ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. Edwards is the fourth forward from the 2024 season to return for the Latics, joining Mamadou Dieng, Michee Ngalina and Deshane Beckord.
Hartford has also added Jonathan Jimenez Vargas and Adewale Obalola to the front line as they close in on the start of the regular season.
Edwards joined the Latics ahead of the 2023 season after spending two years in the USL Championship with RGV Toros. He made 23 appearances for the Toros across two seasons, scoring six goals and adding two assists in less than a thousand minutes.
With Hartford, his contributions in 2023 were one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal season, as Edwards had seven goals and three assists in a little over 1,200 minutes. He was easily the Latics most effective contributor on a minutes-adjusted basis, and the list of players around the league who did more with their minutes was very short.
In 2024, Edwards had a more limited role — starting the season further down the pecking order and struggling for fitness int he early going — but still tallied three goals and an assist in just over 500 minutes. He was a valuable contributor off the bench, with two of his goals helping the Latics secure wins over Oakland and Tulsa as they made a late-season playoff push. In fact, Edwards has five goals off the bench over the last two seasons, and only three players have found the beck of the net more often as a substitute over that span.
That would seem to be the role in store for him in 2025, and Edwards has shown that he can produce without needing a lot of minutes or a regular starting role. The Latics should also benefit from having a forward who can be a reliable contributor off the bench, and if Edwards can stay fit, he should be a useful player for Brendan Burke’s side as the seek a first playoff appearance since 2020.
The Blazing Musket will continue to have coverage of all of Hartford Athletic’s offseason moves as they are announced.
