Kick For a Cure With The Rebellion
The Rebellion will host their first annual Footgolf tournament this weekend
What do The Rebellion and Boston Red Sox have in common? They both have a tee time scheduled for next weekend.
The first annual Rebellion footgolf tournament will be taking place on October 7th at 4 p.m. and is open to all Revolution fans, whether or not they are Rebellion members. Competitors will kick off at 4 p.m. and play two rounds on the 9-hole course at Forekicks in Norfolk.
The event marks another new tradition added to the calendars of Rebellion supporters. For Cloutier, these events are key to building community amongst supporters.
"We wanted to start doing more annual, well known, events. This helps provide consistency but also helps us work on improving the events every year," Rebellion President Cory Cloutier said. "We will now forever have footgolf, cornhole, and bury me in the pines in our organization, creating the atmosphere in our organization we have been looking for."
Not only will the tournament include a traditional score, but also mini-games like longest drive and closest to the pin, giving multiple chances to come away a winner even if your overall score looks like you played on the United States Ryder Cup team.
"Footgolf is also perfect because it is more inclusive than most other events," said Cloutier. "Almost anyone is able to play footgolf. While skill is needed, it isn’t as necessary as other tournaments."
While the tournament is held in the afternoon, the festivities won't end at the 18th hole. The Rebellion will hop in their footgolf carts and travel down Route 140 to Flynn's Irish Pub in Mansfield, where they'll host a watch party for the Revolution's game against Orlando. The watch party is open to all, whether or not they participated in the tournament.
Any interested parties can sign up as a team of two or as an individual at nerebellion.org.
On top of a round of competitive footgolf, participants will receive ten tickets for a raffle being held later that night at the watch party.
Proceeds from the event will go to Score for a Cure, an organization that raises money to support breast cancer-related programs and assist women diagnosed with breast cancer undergoing treatment. You can learn more and donate to their organization at scoreforacure.com.
