Jacob Jackson Heads Home, Signs With San Jose Earthquakes
“Jacob is a young, talented player with MLS experience,” said Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch. “We’re looking forward to him competing in our goalkeeper group this year.”
After being waived by the New England Revolution, goalkeeper Jacob Jackson didn’t sit on the sidelines too long. The San Jose Earthquakes signed Jackson on Monday off of waivers.
Jackson, 24, featured in 26 matches for Revolution II across two seasons (2022-23), earning nine clean sheets and MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Month honors in May 2022. At the first-team level, he made three appearances for the Revolution, making his Major League Soccer debut last season.
“Jacob is a young, talented player with MLS experience,” said Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch. “We’re looking forward to him competing in our goalkeeper group this year.”
With Jackson being born in San Diego, he will fit right in with the Cali club. But the competition for minutes will be stiff as the Quakes currently have five other goalkeepers on the roster. William Yarbrough is the starter while J.T. Marcinkowski and Daniel are injured. Emmanuel Ochoa is just 18 so he could be in line for a return to MLS NEXT Pro leaving Mikołaj Biegański and Jackson to compete for backup minutes.
Good to see Jacob was picked up.
