Ian Harkes "Gettin Ready" to Return From Strange Injury
The midfielder talked about fracturing his Adam's Apple and his vinyl collection.
It has been over a month since Ian Harkes played in a match for the New England Revolution but the midfielder is nearing a return from one of the strangest injuries a player could suffer.
After a great start to his Revolution career with two goals and an assist, Harkes has been sidelined since New England’s match against the Chicago Fire on September 23rd.
The midfielder told The Blazing Musket that he suffered a fractured Adam’s Apple.
“Yeah its definitely been a strange one,” the midfielder said. “I’ve been fortunate ina strange way to be able to do everything to keep myself fit but obviously when you fracture your Adam’s Apple, I’ve never really heard of it before. It honestly can be one that can go really badly so I was very blessed that it wasn’t worse than it was. I’ve just been waiting to get back, just kind of itching to.”
While Harkes would have preferred to have been on the field, it did allow for him to have a unique vantage point of his club. Instead of watching games from the sidelines or being on the pitch, Harkes has been watching games from the stands or at home like the rest of us.
“Yeah, sometimes you take a step back and it’s nice to just kind of assess what the team needs, what the vibe is, and where the culture is headed. Especially around this important time of the season I’m just excited to be back in.
While on the sidelines, Harkes has been able to explore New England and also enjoy some rest and relaxation at home. Followers of the midfielder’s Instagram will see him listening to vinyl records occasionally and the midfielder credited his family and his wife’s for inspiring his love for vinyls.
“I think both my wife’s family and my own had just a great collection of vinyls,” Harkes stated. “I don’t know how long ago I got a record player but I just love hearing music through it and just trying to add to it every year but it’s the perfect kind of setup right now.”
Harkes favorite record that he owns is an album from The Temptations that his grandparents used to own but he is looking to add to his collection.
“I really like Mt. Joy, my wife and I do so maybe one of those… maybe Led Zeppelin IV or II.”
Hopefully Harkes and the rest of the Revs will be ready to “Rock and Roll” when New England takes on Philly in Game 2 or else the Revs season will come to an end and be a real “Heartbreaker” for players, coaches, and fans alike.
Hope he is back for Wednesdays game.
