Here's What Happened At The Hearts of Pine Jersey Release Party
Thursday night was about community and soccer.
Portland Hearts of Pine, who will begin USL League One play in 2025, revealed their first-ever jersey on Thursday before a sold-out crowd at the State Theatre.
The event started with a hype video featuring local voices—including representatives from Bissell Brothers and Allagash—talking about soccer and Maine.
Herb Ivy and Chris Sedenka of WBLM then came to the stage to act as the masters of ceremony.
They spoke about the steps the club has made so far, including hosting an outdoor World Cup watch party, launching a name and crest, and selecting inaugural coach and sporting director, Bobby Murphy.
The radio personalities then introduced Murphy, who came out to answer questions.
He spoke about the project (he’s humbled to be part of it), expectations for supporters (“I want Portland, ME to be the most horrible place in the world for opposition teams to come to”), and style of play (playing on the front foot since Fitzpatrick Stadium is narrow).
He then video-chatted the first player to sign with Hearts, though he didn’t reveal a name.
Before leaving the stage, Murphy led the supporters in a chant that he hopes becomes a post-game tradition.
Next was Griffin William Sherry of Ghost of Paul Revere, a Maine-based musician who sang several songs.
Jon Cross and Muntasir Ahmed then spoke about the magic of Kennedy Park.
These courts bring together people of all backgrounds to play the beautiful game. A theme from both speakers was to care for your community and, of course, lead with your heart.
Austin Mills’ short documentary “Rosati” built on the message as it told the story of soccer in Lewiston. Hearing from young athletes was a reminder that Hearts will be an inspiration for many.
The Dirigo Union Supporters Group provided a moment of spirit before a video revealed the first-ever kit.
Cheers erupted as fans saw the blue and green hoops. The shirts were available to purchase on-site. Those who missed it can find the jerseys on the Hearts’ website.
Fans leaving the State Theatre were gifted a small “Maine.” pennant, a keepsake for a night that showcased what Hearts will be about.
This is the first of three kits that will be revealed this year. Founder Gabe Hoffman-Johnson told The Blazing Musket that the secondary kit is slated to be unveiled in February and the third will debut in April.
