Hartford Athletic Sign Former MLS Midfielder
Midfielder played seven seasons in MLS with Toronto FC and Inter Miami
The USL Championship side has signed former MLS midfielder Jay Chapman pending league and federation approval. The 29-year-old spent seven seasons in the top tier of American soccer.
“Bringing in a player of Jay’s caliber is a tremendous addition to our Club,” said CEO Nick Sakiewicz. “He is one of the most experienced players in the USL and knows what it takes to win a championship at the highest level of U.S. soccer. He will bring a balance of experience, skill and a winning mentality to some of the younger talent we are bringing in this season.”
In his first full season in the USL Championship, Chapman made 28 appearances and 20 starts, recording a goal and an assist for the Colorado Switchbacks.
Chapman is a product of Toronto FC’s Academy and spent five seasons with the club. During his stint in Toronto, he was a part of an MLS Cup winning squad in 2017 and also won the Canadian Championship on three occasions.
Chapman also scored six goals in 79 appearances and added three goals in the USL Championship for Toronto FC II. In 2020, the midfielder moved to Inter Miami where he made 33 appearances for the club across two seasons before joining Scottish Premiership club Dundee FC in 2022.
