Hartford Announce Departure of 2 Players
Joel Quist's contact has been mutually terminated, while Jonathan Filipe heads out on loan for the remainder of the season.
Ahead of this weekend’s matchup with Las Vegas Lights FC, Hartford Athletic have announced a pair of midseason roster moves.
The club announced Friday that Joel Quist’s contract has been mutually terminated, while Jonathan Filipe will head on loan to USL League One side Chattanooga Red Wolves SC for the remainder of the 2023 season.
A product of the New York Red Bulls Academy, Filipe scored his only two professional goals for NYRB II against Hartford in a 3-3 draw at Trinity Health Stadium last August, before making the move to the Green and Blue through the 2023 open tryouts in December. In total, he made 32 appearances for the Red Bulls reserve team in 2022.
However, his time in Hartford has not quite gone as planned. The Danbury, Connecticut native has seen only 68 minutes of actions across four appearances in all competitions in 2023, and will spend the rest of the season in Chattanooga in an attempt to re-gain his form.
As for Quist — who was another player to come up through the ranks of the pre-season open tryouts — he has not seen the field at all in his first professional season. He started his professional career in Hartford after a brief period in his home state playing for Jackson Lions FC of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) in 2022, where he scored seven goals and assisted two in 10 games.
His contract has been mutually terminated.
