Hartford Acquire Former Inter Miami CF II Defender Modesto Méndez
The Green and Blue bolster a bleeding back line with the addition of the Cuban international.
Following their 5-2 loss to San Antonio FC on the weekend, Hartford Athletic announced Tuesday the signing of Cuban International defender Modesto Méndez.
The defender spent the better part of the last four seasons with MLS Next Pro side Inter Miami CF, formerly Fort Lauderdale CF of USL League One. It was there where he made 45 appearances for Inter Miami’s reserves, scoring two goals and assisting one in more than 3,600 minutes of action. The 25-year-old did receive a callus to Inter Miami’s first team in March 2022, but never featured for the Major League Soccer side.
On the international stage, Méndez has 11 appearances for his native Cuba, making his international debut in June 2021 and most recently appearing in three matches in this year’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Méndez will be available for selection this Saturday when Hartford Athletic host New Mexico United at Trinity Health Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on WCTX MyTV9 and ESPN+.
