Gillette Named Official Jersey Sponsor of the New England Revolution
The Revolution's jerseys will now have Gillette as their front-of-jersey sponsor.
The New England Revolution have named Gillette as their official front-of-jersey sponsor as part of a multi-year agreement.
Gillette, a Boston-based men’s grooming brand, has been a supporter of the Revolution since the club’s inaugural season in 1996. The club of course plays its home games at Gillette Stadium, which opened in 2002.
“We are delighted to expand our relationship with Gillette through this new jersey sponsorship, strengthening our relationship with an iconic New England brand that shares our local roots and has been with us since the very beginning of our club,” Revolution President Brian Bilello said in a press release. “This exciting new chapter in our partnership will create even more opportunities for Gillette to engage with our loyal fans as they help us grow the game here in New England.”
The Revs will continue to wear their “Boston Tea Party” kits this year, though they will now feature Gillette.
The club will unveil a new secondary jersey on Wednesday, February 12 at 11 a.m. EST. The Revs will tour all six New England states to celebrate the new shirt.
The festivities start with a trolley tour of Boston on Wednesday. This begins at the Old North Church (193 Salem Street) from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Other stops include the Elephant & Castle sports pub (161 Devonshire Street) from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. and The Phoenix Landing in Cambridge (512 Massachusetts Ave.) from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
The Revs will visit the other New England states at the following locations:
Thursday, Feb. 13 – Rí Rá Irish Pub in Burlington, Vermont (2:00-6:00 p.m.)
Friday, Feb. 14 – Brass Monkey in Providence, Rhode Island (5:00-7:30 p.m.)
Saturday, Feb. 15 – Wide World of Indoor Sports in Oakdale, Connecticut (2:00-6:00 p.m.)
Sunday, Feb. 16 – The June Cork Pub in Dover, New Hampshire (12:00-2:30 p.m.)
Sunday, Feb. 16 - Gritty McDuff’s Brew Pub in Portland, Maine (4:00-6:00 p.m.)
Not mentioned: this came after years of fans expressing outrage and disgust at having UHC as a kit sponsor given the company’s reputation for labor abuse and claim denials. The change in sponsor is likely connected to the assassination of UHC’s CEO in what many suspected was the righteous work of a disgruntled revs musket man.
